Spring marriages

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I like these two together. The tulips are just starting to pick up their heads after a day of rain.

They are just picking their heads up. Were they sad?

Stamford, CT

Wow Venu, that is beautiful! I am charging my camera now, will submit some nice combos later. Personally I am still walking on air because of the rain..finally!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I like that Venu. Here is an odd couple for you, PJM rhodo and Bleeding Heart.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

This is the other bleeding heart, the fern leaf with brunnera 'Jack Frost'.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Ngam, I have BH with Jack Frost also. One of my favorite spring combos. I like your rhodie with the BH too.
Schicken, I think the tulips were bowing in gratitude to the rain gods.
Abby, I was in the same state of mind as you. Wonderful Rain!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice, Weeze. I'll look for some combos.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Louise, what a great idea! I'll have to move either the pink tulips, or the ajuga!

Stamford, CT

Here is one of my fave combos in my woodland garden, white tulips with rue anemones, ajuga and if you look closely the Jeffersonii jetfire (I think that is what it's called) on the right...behind all if it is a huge white bleeding heart. I need to take some more pictures.

alright, that wasn't a great picture I guess I really just love those rue anemones in the morning light. Here's a picture of "garden boy" -who has been strumming along in every garden I have ever had for the last twenty years- looking very happy under the clumb birch with some forget-me-nots and yellow digitalis. Makes me want to sing!!

They're both very nice abby. Love your garden boy. I can understand why you feel like singing

North Augusta, ON

One of my favs. orange Tulips, Violets and soon to be Forget-me-nots.

Nice combos everyone. JoAnn the different greens in your threesome are very lovely and the flowers add just the right touch of color for a spring accent.
I like the foxgloves withe the FMNs Abby. By the time mine are blooming I think the FMNs will be done. Such a nice soft yellow. The little musician seems to agree.
Tulips and violets, what a lovely scene that is 3Gs, I bet it smells really nice too.

GOING BACK TO THE HEADING

APRIL = SHOWERS
MAY = FLOWERS
JUNE = WEDDINGS

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Lol Doc.....So I will assume you are a very literal person...
AUGUST=IT IS TOO HOT!!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Lee Anne, are those Princess Irene tulips? They're beautiful!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I don't know how I missed this thread, gorgeous pics.

North Augusta, ON

Sorry Sue, I don't know what kind of tulips they are. I'm glad you like them though.

(Zone 4a)

Very pretty!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

threegardeners, I think your lovely orange tulip is 'Princess Irene' Nice combo. I have a few good ones, and a couple of "oh my, what was I thinking" I should start the 'Nightmare thread" Patti

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Threegardeners, You have inspired me. I have a long stretch of violets and always wondered how to add a color punch. Princess Irene is the ticket. Thanks for the ID Patti.

Abby ~ forgive me, but which is the rue anemones and which is the ajuga?
(Sophomore gardener here)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Blue flowers are ajuga, Candyce.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Thank you Victor.
I seem to have them all over my yard. Aren't they some sort of wildflower?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They show up in many places, including my lawn. People use them for tough ground covers. They will even do well in dry shade and will take foot traffic.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I just checked PlantFiles. I never knew there were so many varieties!
Well, well! As they say, 'you learn something new every day'!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Beautiful combos!

Lee Ann - my favorite is that combo of orange, blue and white. That is so pretty!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Isn't it, though?
I have to look around for some of our gardens' 'marriages'.

North Augusta, ON

Another combination I like...Forget-me-Not and Johnny-Jump-Ups.

I let them grow wherever they want to as an early filler. I rip them out as the other perennials grow. By the time the others get big enough these guys have dropped seeds for next year. My garden is full of Tulips, Daffys and waves of this blue/purple combination.

Foliage marriage. Weigela 'Midnight Wine' and lemon balm.

Thumbnail by victorgardener
North Augusta, ON

Very nice Victor!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. The marriage might last if they 'leave' each other alone...

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Nice combo Victor, does your Midnight wine hold the dark purple color pretty well? I have some that I'm going to plant with sedum 'Pink Chablis'.

Thumbnail by ngam
Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes it remains dark all year. The lemon balm bleaches out though. It also seeds itself around.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Um, yes, I would put lemon balm into the promiscuos category. Smells nice though!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Smells more like Lemon Pledge than lemon to me!

(Zone 7b)

Or canned lemon merangue pie filling - that chemical smell. Gah.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

You mean lemon pledge doesn't smell like lemon???
