Need Plant Id

Central Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

My friend emailed me this picture today for ID. (Sorry it is not any bigger than it is.) I am hoping y'all can help out. It looks like a salvia to me. She didn't offer any other information except this is what it looked like this weekend. Ideas?

Interesting pensacola. Thanks. I asked my friend to send me more info such as does it flower and if so what does it look like, how tall is it...however, she just moved to this house and is learning about gardening so I don't know if she will be able to provide the info.

Anyone else want to chime in?

I believe it is Phytolacca americana, American Poke Weed, a very nice plant to have if you are into native plants and wildlife;

Thanks Josephine. It does look a lot like the plant in the picture.

Yep looks like the Poke Weed to me also. I love it but I have to dig it out of the pasture as the birds love to spread this one around and there is a bumper crop this year.I always leave at least one to grow that is away from the horses because it is very cool looking. Anyone for a little Poke Salad Annie? I think she has her own song! My Mom grew up eating this but if not cooked right will send to the ER. The birds love it!

Anything that has the word "poke" in it must be good! Reminds me of Augustus McRae.

Thanks everyone. Y'all are great. I have never heard of pokeweed. My friend will be so happy it has been identified. :-)
