Yeah! I've got three chrysalises!

And plenty of other fat cats. I can't wait to see what they do. :)

Thanks! I've also got a fourth on the bottom, not suspended from anything. I guess it's not going to make it, right? :(

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9b)

Doesn't sound like it :(
I am loosing cats left and right here :( They get up and make a "J" then start shedding , then never finish and die. It's sad as they are monarch cats and they form what looks like a little green hat on their heads and that is it. I lost 4 over the weekend and 3 more look like they aren't going to make it either.

Yikes! You have a veritable morgue over there. :(

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9b)

Yes I do! I've been referring to it as the cage of death :(

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

I had that happening for a while last year. It was so discouraging....losing so many of them. Some kind of butterfly disease, I guess. Were these brought in as eggs or cats?

Sugar Land, TX

Oh, I hope I can avoid that disease.

Right now, I have 6 chrysalises and 5 cats making j's - beginning to pupate.

And I have about seven more cats of various sizes, but for now that's all I'm putting in for now. One of the six chrysalises is taped a bit, and I have a seventh on the floor that isn't going to make it, but I haven't had the heart to throw it away yet. :(

Linda,
Some were brought in as eggs right after the momma deposited them and some I found in various sizes a week or so later. I actually found another quite large one the other day. Don't know how I missed it as I am always checking the milkweed.
I've also had this happen before and was very discouraged. Then as I learned more about them I realized it may not have been anything I did wrong. It just happens.
It has definitely made me appreciate them more when one does make it :)

Jo-
I know what you mean about it being hard throwing them away :( It really is sad. I eventually wrap them nicely in a napkin or paper towel , say a little prayer then dispose of them.
Your going to have a cage full soon!! How exciting!!
Keep us posted!

Just within the last couple of hours, I now have 9 chrysalises! One really had to struggle much more than the others to get its skin off. It was interesting to watch.

Sugar Land, TX

I'm not up to twelve chrysalises!

I have a prayer request on the prayer board if anyone would like to pray. We really need prayer THIS morning. Thanks.

Jo
