My roses have never looked so bad, even when covered in black spot when I moved in. Half leaves are being eaten. New leaves curling terribly. Different rose bushes on different sides of yard. Help!!
Thank you
Vicki
Will answer this thread to post more pics
Something is very wrong with Roses and Hydrangea, butterflyB
Wow. Vicki - I don't know much about roses and don't know what it is. Have you tried Messenger on your roses - I think it's widely accepted that roses respond to it.

hmmmmmmmmm... maybe a root buggie of some kind? is there anything on the leaves top or bottom? stems?
Our cold spring, with warm days thrown in here and there, has wrecked havoc on many plants, including roses. That last photo looks like a response to the wierd weather patterns this year. Mine look similar to that.
The second photo actually looks like a healthy plant to me. Looks like you have some kind of caterpillar or something, but it doesn't look like anything the shrub cannot handle. I would agree that messenger is a good bet at this point. I need to start spraying mine, too.
It's possible that the dead leaves on the first photo are also a weather related response. If it were me, I would just trim off the dead leaves, spray with messenger, and pray for warm weather. I wouldn't be concerned about the bug damage at this point. It looks like it's limited to a few leaves and you don't know what caused it, so it might be something you wouldn't want to kill.
Everyone keeps talking about Messenger. I have googled it to no avail. What is it, do I need it and, if so, where can I find it?
here is the link.

I have used it only for 1 month..things are growing well, but only time will tell if it helps long term.
Outta. I will bring you a packet, went I come out, do you have a sprayer if not I will bring mine.
Vicky. It does look like weather damage, the leaves in the one pic looks like it has been poked not eaten, like from the hail we have had. just a guess, mine look some what like that.
Outta -
Messenger is just supposed to strengthen your plants immune system homeopathically. It is widely accepted to work on roses and lots of rose places recommend it. I think the jury's still out on whether it may work as well on other plants. Edenbio, I think, has developed it. Check out their site in the links above.
been using it on all new growth, doesn't matter what plant. got the word from Pix and Rach when I ordered it.
I'll go back in time and find the old tread.

You know what, Tilly, I think you are right about the leaf damage on her plants. I didn't consider it may be hail damage, but that makes complete sense.
Messenger is made from Harpin, a plant protein that send messages to the plant (hence the name..) to beef up the immune system. I've been using it for about 3 years now on everything in my yard. It does make a big difference in the disease resistance of plants and they grow faster in my opinion, and have more blooms. It's expensive, though, so I highly recommend getting in on a coop whenever one is offered. That's the only way to make it cost effective. Also, it's important to know that you need only mist the plants, not spray until they drip. A gallon goes a long way. And yes, it's organic.
Tills, I don't have a sprayer but plan on getting on this Friday. And thanks for the packet offer. I've d-mailed you directions.
Thanks everyone else for the info. I'll try it on some of my kids and leave some alone, see if I notice a difference. If it works, it's probably worth the $$.
trust me It works. See ya on Fri. I'll bring mine just in case. ^_^
