DC's Show pix and plug for Convention

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

The DC area Ges Soc chapter had their 18-monthly show in March and I took like 100 pix... So if any of you are bored, take a gander over to http://flickr.com/photos/ki/sets/72157604124211566/

Also, if anyone is in the Denver area, the annual Convention will be there the week of July 4. Next year, it will be in DC, so make plans now! ^_^ Details on their website http://gesneriadsociety.org/

This pic is part of the DC show's sales table on day one. It completely sold out and we replenished with about twice as much material on day two.

I'm right behind you Lin....

I am drooling just thinking of how many different kinds of nematanthus and aeschynanthus...................columnea. etc.............sinningias..............there are!!!!! I might have to start thinking about July 4th and Denver. Now , how I am going to get there is another question since I don't fly (LOL)

On the flip side is that the drive into Colorado through New Mexico (once you finally get out of Texas in about 13 hours from here) is fantastic and beautiful scenery!

Wow Key, what an AMAZING table! No wonder it sold out!
What an awesome selection of plants!
How I wish we had a nursery that sold houseplants!
Lowe's & Home Depot just don't cut it!
Absolutely beautiful!!!!!!

mrsbonnie- I liked the Chirita with the numbers too! But my favorite and one I now have to have is the
Chirita brassicoides Marble Leaf! Stunning foliage!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I don't know the name of what my favorite one was... does anyone know the one that had the beautiful red tips to the backside of the leaves and the bright yellow flowers blooming right from the stem underneath the leaves? That one was an eye grabber!

I watched it as a slide show, if I just go picture by picture maybe are the names listed?

I have to say that the Chiritas took my breath away with foliage only!

I think the you're talking about is Columnea orientandina. That is a cool one.

(Zone 1)

Awesome photo's! I spent over an hour last night going through each page and then this morning looking again! So many Chirita's I would love to have, especially that C. USBRG 98-083 and C. brassicoides marble leaf and C. naine argente, C. jade moon Oh, and C. gemella too! ^_^

Two other's I have never heard of that look really nice were Seemania medea and that plant called Titanotrichum oldhamii ... awesome flowers on that one!

Thanks, Key for sharing these great pic's!

Thanks Diane, that was the one! That means in layman's terms it's a "liptstick" plant right?

I did find that if I click on the individual pictures I get the name of each plant, unlike watching the slide show.

Now I need to go back through and do it that way, one picture at a time!

Yes, that was Columnea orientandina!

I bought that plant from Rob's last year when it was on his "specials" page. Labeled Pentadenia Orientandina ... couldn't find much on it when I researched except that it is related to Columnea. The teeny plant is still alive ... barely. I took it out of the pot a few days ago, rinsed the soil off the roots and re-potted to see if I can save it.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

There was a Pentadenia that I was wanting from Rob's but I forgot it when I ordered- dangit! It had yellow & orange blooms. Don't remember the species... I love the Columneas & Aeschynanthus...

(Zone 1)

hmmm ... I just received a catalog in the mail from Rob's a couple of days ago ... don't remember seeing the Pentadenia in there. Have to go check out the website!

(Zone 1)

I just went to The Violet Barn website and couldn't find Pentadenia anywhere but Wow! Lookie what he has on his "specials" page: http://www.robsviolet.com/special_offers1.htm

I am LOVING that Sinningia Bewitched!

Last year I got a little plant from him called Nautilocalyx Goteburg but my foliage is not as dark like the one he has pictured with that name ... mine looks more the color of N. Adenosiphon. My plant is very spindly ... maybe I should take it out of the LSF it's been in since day one and pot it up in soil?

Here's a photo of mine labeled N. goteburg

Oooh ... I see he has one called Gloxinia medea that looks identical to the photo on Keyring's Flickr acct from the show in D.C. only that one was called Seemania medea! It's a gessie so I'm assuming they are one and the same?

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

He sure doesn't have any of the Pentadenias on there now! Maybe he'll have them again. Bummer...

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Lin- I just found most of the Chiritas I liked on Lyon's! Their shipping is so high I didn't order from them but may have to re-think that!!! Let's see...if I skimp on groceries, don't drive anywhere not necessary to save on gas...LOL

(Zone 1)

I haven't checked out LL in awhile ... but if shipping is really high I doubt I'd buy from there. I wonder why his shipping fees would be any different than another company? Where are they located? I'm heading over to check out his website right now .... I may be in BIG trouble, huh? Nope, made up my mind ... no plants for a few months, just have too much going on the next couple of months! So, I will look but will NOT buy!

^_^

Nice plant, Lin. She is big and healthy. I have never tried the Nautilocalyx but Jan loves them.

I posted on another thread but no one saw what a happy camper I am with this trade from Kim.............
all grown by her!!!
I listed on the end of April blooms but I got an XCondanthes 'Vista' and I can't spell it again.............

just a quick note or two.

Pentadenia orientandina and columnea orientandina are the same thing. I think Columnea is the currently accepted name, but don't quote me on that. There are a number of columneas with thos red tips on the underside of the leaves. Quite striking.

Gloxinia Medea and Seemania are the same thing too. I think Seemania is the currently accepted name. These taxonomist like to shuffle things around, but apparently they haven't still gotten to giving Chirita sp USBRG 98-083 a name. LOL.

While in slideshow, if you click on the pic, it will give you the basic plant info.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Exactly right Ki!
Kinda like I've also seen the 'Nautilocalyx phyllanthoides' as 'Disocactus phyllanthoides'!
