growing herbs in zone 7a

Comer, GA(Zone 7b)

would end of april ,early may be too late to start herbs. thinking maybe planting some basil, dill, parsley not sure what else I might do

Keene, NH(Zone 5a)

I often start a row of herb seeds outside even though all the garden centers have started plants in pots already. up here i have done that as late as the end of june- in 7a, as long as you make sure the seeds stay watered, I'm pretty sure it is fine. I find that I get healthy plants and lots of them by seeding them into the ground where they will grow. Parsley takes about 2 weeks to germinate, but it will catch up- basil will take off quicker, and you will have so much of it, that you'll have plenty to make pesto. Much more economical than buying plants! Dill is one that i start at least 2 times for earlier and later harvest. Have fun! sarah

Thanks Sarah, I've never grown herbs before, I was picking up a few packs of seeds and saw these herb seed packs 4 for a dollar and thought what the heck I might as well try it. I do have several types of mint that are growing around my well house and around my Butterfly bush ( not sure how they got there )
I had some lemon balm and apple balm I picked up at the Ga roundup last spring but did something to it and it died

I think you'll have fun getting those herb seeds planted!
