I need to build a house/pen for puddles and aflac. Is there anything any of you have learned the hard way that I should consider in my plan? So far the plan is a 4'x8' enclosure with a house attached with a hinged roof. The pen will be enclosed at the top too so nothing can get in.

well, you are in a warm climate, so the size of the actual house won't be too significant. otherwise i would say make it small enough that two birds can keep warm, but big enough for any other feathered friends that you bring home!
You want to be sure nothing can dig under! We dug a trench to bury the fencing in, and added chunks of concrete. put a board across it for the bottom of the door, and then a raised bed garden around it for looks, extra security, and to plant things for shade and windbreaks.
Due to the heat, i would recommend not facing it West...
Thanks TamaraFaye! Didn't think about anything digging under. Ok A trench won't be a problem. How do you clean it? Could you post a pic of yours?
hmmm, the trench is filled in now. what we did was use 8 ft 4x4 posts. when we dug the holes for them, 2 feet deep [no easy task here!], then we dug a trench between the holes that was 18" deep. attached the cattle panels/ concrete wire reinforcement to the posts and also down in the trench, followed by the hardware clothe also sunk down, but only a 36" roll, so it doesn't go up all the way. filled in with rocks, concrete chunks, and lots of dirt. then chicken wire over all that which went all the way to the top. when we were down DH replied all it needed was a security camera and razor wire LOL. he actually did ALL that digging while i watched! and we now have a security camera there!
i will find a picture somewhere to post... there are several showing it's progress, maybe i'll do a whole thread on it. but not anytime soon.
