Hoya trivia question :)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

This is a long shot, but I've searched and come up empty handed. I'm hoping someone here can give me some ideas.

A resident at the nursing home my daughters work at has been talking about a houseplant she used to have and it was her favorite plant. She never did have any idea what the name of it was, but she said it hung in the window, had hard leaves and almost black flowers. The hard leaf description is what is making me believe it was a Hoya, but black flowers? Also, we don't know if she had this plant 50 years ago, or just before she became a resident of the nursing home, so there's no clue if it's a newer plant, heirloom, or anything. The family has no idea what she's talking about.

Does anyone have any guesses or ideas?

H. pubicalyx 'Red Buttons' or H. pubicalyx 'Royal Hawaiian Purple' have greyish purple flowers with red centers....?

Thanks! I'll try to find photos of them for her. If nothing else, by the time I get all the photos of possibilities printed, she will have a nice photo collection. ^_^

Hoya ciliata has nealy black flowers but I don't know how long it's been around.
