spent daffodils

As I ordered to many, some were put into pots instead of the garden. Now what? One more fertilization? put the pots in a side yard and forget about them till the fall? What about any water needs during the summer?

I force hyacinths, tulips and narcissis for my urns (I grow them in pots in the ground, then bring them up and put them in the urns in March). After they are finished blooming, I take them out of the urns and plant them in a border garden, with limited success. The narcissis do better than the tulips or hyacinths.

Like Leawood, after forcing bulbs (refrigerated), I set them into the garden in the spring. Daffodils usually do well thusly, hyacinths so-so, and tulips, I just throw them away.
Pic is a group of Kaydee that were forced a couple of years ago and subsequently set into garden.

These were not forced bulbs. They were bulbs I had no room or time to plant in the garden. I asking if they should get one shot of fertilizer and set aside in their pots in an out of the way spot. I am most interested if, kept in the pots till the fall, should they continue to get water or just dry out and let them die back and then plant in the fall?

keep them watered so they can store energy for next year

to add to what jordankitty said, keep them watered while the leaves are still green. A light fertilizing is a good idea too, especially since they're potted, and allowing the foliage to get some sun is a good idea too. The leaves are manufacturing carbs to store in the bulb to fuel next years blooms. After the leaves yellow, the bulbs can be left dry through the dormant period of summer. They won't require water again till fall when the roots start growing again.

Were they precooled bulbs? I'm curious if you'll need to artificially cool them or if your zone gets enough winter chill for the bulbs to set blooms.

My zone gets enough for daffodils, but not tulips. Thanks for the advice on water till they go yellow. And the sun and fertilizer. Somewhere in the back of the brain, this is what I had read somewhere long ago, but, well, it was ling ago an I'm not storing energy as well as in the past!

LOL, I feel your pain. I miss my mind when I remember it's gone.
