A gift to me!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I just have to show off this container that was given to me yesterday! A dear friend of mine made this. He is the DH of the secretary at my kids' school. He has MS and some days it is all he can do to get out of the house. Wood working keeps him out of trouble when he's feeling good. ;o) He made one for the school auction and I fell in love with it when I saw it. I told the secretary that I would love to purchase one, but he doesn't sell his stuff. Well, when I got to the school yesterday, there it was! She said he wouldn't take any money, but I gave her $25 and told her to give it to him secretly. LOL It's worth much more than that to me!

Now I just need to fill it and chain it to my front porch so it doesn't walk away!

LUCKY you!!! That is so beautiful, what a nice surprise!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

How lovely! What are you planning to plant in it?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Thank you! Well, it will be in the shade all day, so I think I will put some mini hostas, a heuchera and some impatiens. I would like something trailing too.....what trails and does well in the shade?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Ivies or vinca. There must be many more but I'm brain dead tonight.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Ivy would be pretty. I don't really care for vinca. What about bacopa? Does it do well in the shade?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You wouldn't lose much by trying one plant. If it does well enough then buy more.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Very true. ^_^

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

It's charming! I've grown annual blue lobelia in situations like that. Your arrangement sounds pretty.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I love lobelia, but I didn't think it would do well in the shade. I might have to try it too.

mgh - don't you dare chain it up. it sure looks like it wants to walk all the way to upstate new york. its beautiful. good luck

That bench is darling. It looks pretty large. I have a small one, similar. What a fabulous suprise!

LOL Herbie43!! Exactly why I need to chain it up! I don't want it to get a mind of it's own! ^_^

mattsmom, it is pretty big. It is 2½' wide X 2' tall. The planter box is about 6" deep and 6" wide at the top. I'd love to see a pic of yours!

They show a few that would drape down, mgh, but look at the other pages for shade to part sun and check out the blizzard geraniums. They could look like big fluffy cushions on the bench and they may have one to match the color of your home.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Wow! I love those blizzard geraniums! I think I need some of those for my hanging baskets! I love the tri-color sweet potato vine too. Thank you for showing me that website!

They are a terrific company and the prices are right! The packaging is super!

Pirl
Why this box is full of cuttings?
Kaleem

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Pirl, those look very nice! I better check to see if they ship to OR before I get an order list going......

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

They're not cuttings, Kaleem, they're plants in pots but so large they come out of the box.

I'm sure they ship to OR, mgh.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Yep, they do, but double the shipping amount. Oh well, the plants look great!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

That's too bad. Sorry!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I finally got my planter painted and planted! Yea! I was going to paint some little designs on it too, but I have too many other things to do right now! I planted Heuchera Peach Flambé, Hostas Fire & Ice and Little Sunspot, Caladiums Red Flash and White Wing, and some ivy and impatiens. Can't wait to see it when it's all filled out!

Very nice! Enjoy it. I bet it fills out beautifully.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Charming!!! It really couldn't have turned out better! Be sure to share later, too, as it fills in more and more . . . great plant choices.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Thank you, pirl and Murmur. Here is a pic of it now. The caladiums are taking off and hiding the hostas a bit, but I think it looks nice still.

What a delight to own. Now each winter you can spend time deciding which plants get the honor of being planted there. You've done a beautiful job.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks pirl! :o)

Delightful - magazine material!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Awww...thanks Murmur!

Beautiful! Filling in so nicely. Sweet little chair you have beside it also.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Isn't that a great chair! I love it! My mom and dad are selling their house and are going to travel, so I pick up some great things each time I visit. She has a strawberry pot I need to grab too! ;o)
