Has anyone ordered from Taylor Greenhouses?

Amsterdam, NY(Zone 5a)

It has taken months to finalize my order with this company. I understand they are busy, but the response time is horrendous. I requested 10 41/2" pots of begonias, priced at $15 each. The website states

Quoting:
Free Shipping on Orders Over $65.00!!! To the Continental U.S.
The email I received today says that
Quoting:
Sorry, we must include a charge for shipping and handling on special packaging of this nature.
They are charging me $30 for shipping and handling - they are located about 5 hours from my house. I'm not sure what the special packaging of this nature is - they advertise the larger pots on the website.
What experience have others had with this company? Is it worth ordering from them? Should I drop down to the 21/2" pots? Or should I just forget the entire order?

I bought some plants from them last year, most of them died after few months( they were begonias for indoors)

Sounds like a good place to avoid.

I got a few 2 1/2 begonias from them. I was pleased with the over grown size and health of the plants. I put them into to 6 in pots right away. I would buy from them again with out question.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would email them and ask how could it be so high if they are just 5 hours from you. Not even airmail!

$15 for a 4 inch pot does seem high.

Looks like people have been happy with them.

I've ordered from them twice , both times I was well pleased with the size of the plants in their 4 inch pots. They don't answer their emails very often, and the second order was a 2 to 3 week ordeal. But nothing like what your going through.

Which begonias did you purchase for l0.00 each, cause there are none that expensive on their web site. I got free shipping on both times I ordered . I would imagine it's that time of year, as I ordered very early and got service alot faster . Must be their busy time, wish they would take inconsideration the fact that if their going to have a web site. they should provide a good turnaround on their responses.

They do have some nice begonias though.

The begonias in a 4 1/2" pot are $15 each - I was interested in 10 varieties. On the site, they say to check with them for availability in the larger size, but they never mention that they intend to charge for shipping and handling on all orders that include the 4 1/2"pots. I'm thinking that the best idea would be to purchase the smaller plants through the website and get the free shipping. I started trying to contact them in February, so I don't think the time of year matters. If it weren't for the selection in begonias, I wouldn't even attempt to deal with them.

oh ok, I must have ordered the 2 l/2 inch pots then. that's high for 4 inch pots. LOL I guess their not one that i'll try to deal wtih again.

Hi, I recently ordered 3 begonias from Taylors (b. foliosa, b. suffructicosa, b. 'Irene Nuss') and recieved the B's within 2 weeks of ordering.

The plants were healthy.

They have a nice selection of begonias.

I would order from them again.

I ordered the smaller plants from the website. I'll let you know how they look.

I ordered the plants on Sunday and received on Tuesday. They were very nice, some smaller than others, but healthy root systems. I transplanted sooner than they recommended because the roots were so full. They are in a shady spot in the greenhouse and thriving. I would have paid the $15 per plant to get larger ones if they didn't want to charge for the shipping.

That's good to hear Dsmith, encourages me to order from them again, cause they have some nice ones there. I think my shipping was free which youcan't beat, if you can order enough of their plants to get the free shipping, these days it doesn't take much for the bill to add up

I was looking at the website and it is updated with more choices. I'm putting together another order. The first plants have done very well. Some are even up to a gallon size pot.

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

OH man, this is torture!! LOL They do have some new begonias

And she is getting in more Thompson varieties. She has a few more to add to the website, no more canes, but then she will be ordering in more stock. DH must never know... but now the children have become informants on the number of boxes arriving when he is away on business.

LOL I do't have to worry about that, i'm home alone during the day LOL Girl you are so bad!! LOL

I love the thompson begonias
