Hello from Illinois

Glendale Heights, IL

Hi all!

I have just signed up for DG and I am sooooo happy to have found you guys. I live in a western suburb of Chicago. I have been gardening etc for a long time - sometimes more off than on :-( but now I am back and I have a question about BOKASHI. Yes, this sounds like a great thing to do to keep our planet green. I have ordered some bokashi but will not get the stuff until this coming Monday. However, I have been accumulating already scraps from my kitchen since this last Wednesday and am keeping the stuff in my refrigerator. I have containers for the bokashi but don't know if I can put those scraps in there already without the bokashi. That's my question. Help anyone?
Thanks a bunch, eve ~~~~~~

Hi Frank..

Hi Muggles !! Welcome !! I never heard of Bokashi, but, I'm guessing it has to do with making your own compost? I have a compost bin that I throw all my kitchen scraps in and it makes a wonderful additive to the soil. I believe it is the secert to great gardening.

Welcome Eve! I only recently found out a little about bokashi by lurking over on the Soil and Composting Discussion Forum. Wow, that looks like some neat stuff! There are several threads on it on this forum, and I think the most recent one is:
