Hummers in Eastern NC

Does anyone know when the hummers will start coming around my area? I don't want to put my feeders out too early because it would just be a waste of hummer food.

Hi MrsKinsey, Some others are starting to see females around this time so I would say put it out now or very soon.

If you don't want to waste nectar just put 1 feeder out for now.

I think they will be there before Mothers day, I usually put out all of my feeders very early to feed the "scouts" that pass through my area and I don't fill them much more than an inch or 1/2 inch over where I can see the liquid. 10 feeders use just a couple of cups. TODAY!!! I rushed out and grabbed half of them, scalded them and filled them up 1/3 of the way, because, TODAY!!! I finally have some that are sticking around.!!! {:-) I don't fill them up all of the way until they drink that much in a day and a half or so. No sense letting it spoil and maybe chase them off to another part of the neighborhood.

Thats the same thing I do so that they all see them.
