I love red-winged blackbirds. I think they're pretty, and their song reminds me of spring. But..
We seem to have so many red-wings around here that they chase all the smaller birds from my feeders--even the thistle feeder for the goldfinches! I had lots of goldfinches and purple finches and even an indigo bunting (not very common around here) last year, but this year the red-wings seem to have bullied them enough that they mostly stay away.
Is there anything I can do to keep these big guys from picking on the little guys?
Red-winged blackbirds chasing smaller birds what to do?
Hi Kayly, Do you think if you take down the other feeders (not thistle) for a few days that they might move on? Worth a try anyway.
I'll give that a try, pelletory. Couldn't hurt!
Odd thing is that the red-wings are even going to the thistle feeder. I've never seen them do this before, but they do seem to eat a little out of it, and they're very territorial. Silly birds! As far as I know red-wings aren't even big seed eaters. I think they're confused. :P
