Would it be okay for me to cut my lavender even with the sidewalk? The limbs are about 18" on my sidewalk. Also, I have pruned out the dead wood. I would like to give my lavender a hefty haircut. It is in process of greening up right now. Is it okay to do pruning now? I don't want to kill the plants, so thought I would check with you first.
lavender limbs on sidewalk
I have the same problem. I think they (and the oregano) look pretty draping over the sidewalk, but DH threatens to weed-whack them and he steps on them. I give my lavender plants a good haircut in the Spring anyway, it's best to prune them this time of year, you won't hurt them. This year, however, I am attempting to tie/stake the limbs to stay more upright than out and installing a mini-fence to help hold it up.
Good luck!
Nicole
What a naughty boy to step on your lavender! It's such a great and fragrant plant. I will prune the bush tomorrow.
LOL, so true. My lavenders and perennial salvia tend to flop out into the grass and he'd shear the tips off if I wasn't there to hold them up. But he also helped me extend the front yard flower beds out about a foot last weekend so he would no longer mow them. So I think I'll keep him! :)
My lavender finally began to look beautiful kind of like those pictures (well.. thats a bit of an exaggeration) of lavender in provence when i learned to cut it way down to a tidy mound of nice live shoots every spring! Its really the way to go in this part of the world, anyway. all the flower buds then bloom at a nice even height all at the same time. I used to think that I had to have lumpy scraggly looking lavender plants... No more! sarah
Yes, sjms, my lav. looks kinda of lumpy. I hope to make mine look nicer.
Loves lavender, I would keep that hubby too! They come in pretty handy in the garden!
SORRY @ that....here's a link to follow and is Extremely great about trimming lavender. I have 5 plants and it astounded me with new info! Enjoy~
