We got our first batch of babies 6 weeks ago. In that bunch were 5 Sebrights. We can tell already that 2 are roos and 2 are hens and one we are unsure. One of the roos my son named Timmy is crowing already. I know our other full grown Sebright crowed at about 3 months and then stopped and started crowing again at 6 months, but this little guy is crowing at 6 weeks. Is this the usual for Sebrights? Most roos wait till 5 or 6 months old.
A 6 week old rooster crowing
Hi smedgekles! One of my Orpington roos started crowing at 4 weeks in the house--it sounded like he was being strangled. He stopped when we put them outside at 6 weeks and then started again at about 9 weeks. The others took much longer--about 5 months.
taht is neat ot know about SEabirghts, sinc ewe have four golden ones... the first rooster we ever had crowed at four weeks, and we named him Foghorn Leghorn. He was a SC Brown Leghorn, and soooo beautiful with the most perfect crow, though it didn't start out that way LOL
I haven't heard him crow yet, but my husband and son have. It has to be cute coming from something so small.
Oh yeah. My first set of chickens I knew who was our rooster at 2 weeks old. I have video of it on one of my website. I will try to find it and post. It is really funny.
Ok...I found it. It is on one of my websites. Go to the link, and it is the video on the very bottom. You need sound. That little RIR on the waterer was two weeks old, and that ended up my buddy Marsala.

Mcamden, Marsala sounds so sweet--mine sounded just awful--you really thought he was going to die--til you watched him stretch his neck out to do it. He was definitely a proud boy. They are all so different!
How cute!
By the way, the cat on the bed looks a lot like our cat Tracy. What was she doing at your house. LOL
