Frog Choir last night, found this in pond this afternoon!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Is this frog eggs? It wasn't there last night! I fed the fish, watered the garden and could hear the frogs over the air conditioning and TV for a few hours after I came inside. The lines of strings go from a potted canna to a aquarium plant that is about strangled with the strings.
The fish have been in a week

Very cool! I’m definitely not an expert by any means, but it kind of looks like toad spawn...maybe? Check out this link to google images and see what you think:

Thank you for the links. I lost the thread where everyone was showing pictures of their frogs/toads.
They work fast!

Cool pic's. I learned something new today! :)

Your little toadies were busy! You should have lots of tadpoles soon. That is a very good thing as they are great for helping with water clarity in the spring. I have a passive biological filter in my small goldfish pond (three small waterfalls with small pools in between with a sand and lava rock layer) and in the spring I have cloudy water. It seems like it only takes a week or so after the tads arrive before the water is very clear. You will enjoy them. It is fascinating to watch them turn from small black specks into little toads that will soon be jumping all over.

Three days... and I have hundreds of tadpoles! Problem is ..the goldfish are having a feeding frenzy. I just noticed them tonight and put a few things in for them to hide under and laid the fern in the water also to give them cover.
Does any one know the time frame from tadpole to toad? (Texas Toad?) I don' t want them all eaten!

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

There is no way they will all be eaten. There are probably hundreds of them. That is why there are so many to begin with, Mother Nature knows that many of them will be snacks. I have never really paid attention to how long it takes for them to develop. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than I will jump in here.

Should I take a few and place them up in the water fall tiers?

Would the water be deep enough and still enough do you think? If it is too shallow or turbulent you would just wash them back down and likely kill them in the process. You might try on the uppermost one.

Since those pictures, I have put floating water crest, mint, and small misc. plants in the tiers. The top one would be safer for them. It does hold more water but doesn't flow as fast as the other two and they would have a place to hide in the plants.

How exciting that you have tadpoles! I am totally new to tadpoles too, but maybe you could put a few in a separate container if the upper tiers are too turbulent etc…for example, we have a couple tadpoles in a cheapo aquarium in our livingroom. Don’t even ask about what’s living in our spare bedroom ;-).

Good luck with your new soon to hatch babies! I have one tadpole so far. Hope its the start of a large family in my pond.
