New seedling

Mol, Belgium(Zone 8a)

I'd like to show you a new seedling that has bloomed for the first time more than 4 years later than the seed was planted. In my conditions a seedling takes at least 3 years to bloom. It fades along the day and it has a good size to be a first bloom, 16 cms. The cross is Hawaiian Sunset x Tahitian Rainbows and the seed came from the IHS Seed Bank. It has a good texture and it lasts two days.

Hi Carlo,

This is very pretty and to get blooms in the cold like it is amazing. Finally I have some crossed that I had planted 6 weeks ago. All seeds have sprouted now it is just the long waiting game. They were my first try at non accidental hybridizing. LOL I really wish there were more databanks with info in them like parantage and line. I refer to IHS and many are not registered. I am trying to look genitic wise for the qualitys before i cross.

Thanks for sharing,
Robert

Hi Robert:
This seedling is a correct mix of both parents. There are two varieties named Hawaiian Sunset, the Curt Sinclair's one and another, this is the other. I have pictures of both parents but I'm not the owner so I can't show them.
The AHS had a database for registered varieties, mainly american ones, but more than one year ago it was shut down. The IHS web page has a search engine
http://www.internationalhibiscussociety.org/SEArchive/SEindex1.php
where you can find most, if not all, of registered varieties. I have pictures and info of much more varieties. If you give me the names of those varieties I'll try to find out something about them.
If you have a heated greenhouse in less than a year you'll see those new creatures blooming. Good luck.
These are the last seeds I repotted. I've planted another 60 seeds and more than 70 seeds (good crosses from Sonny Stollings) are waiting to have place in the mini-greenhouse.

Carlos, it is so pretty! You are going to need lots of room for 130 new plants as they grow up. Such an undertaking.

I love the soft colors of this new one, Carlos...peaches and cream came to mind.
