2 of my four silkie chicks have poo on their bums stuck on the feathers. They are 5 days old. Is that typical and should I be cleaning this off them?
silkie chick question
A warm wet wash cloth should soften it and you can wash it off. Its probably the change in feed, you are feeding them something different than what they were eating, even if its just a brand change. These are the ones you just bought right? You don't want the pasty butts! So keep them clean!
i agree also something that helps is when u change water don't give them cold water. give them room temp water and keep it partially under the light to keep it warm. to cold a water helps increase pasty butt.

Thank you, all good to know. these are the new chicks, and I didnt recall this happening with any previous chicks I've had before. I didnt know if it was because they are fluffier. The two with the "pasty" bums both appear to have a very liquid fecies compared to the other two. I wondered if it was the change in food. I didnt even to think to ask the lady what she was feeding them. I will keep their rears clean and hopefully in a few days it will pass. Thanks again.
