From what I've read, it seems that begonias have their own unique soil requirements which would kinda preclude mixing them in with other plants in a large container.
My question is this - is it feasible to have a begonia in its own little pot with its own soil mix, and then put that put into a bigger container with other plants around it? Would that satisfy the begonias requirements, or would it keep their soil too damp or in some other way bother them?
Any input from you more experienced begonia growers would be greatly appreciated. I'm just kinda going through ideas of what I'm going to put where.
Thanks!

Question re: Begonias in mixed container
Hi Valerie,
You can experiment with what you know about begonias and the other plants you want to mix in. I have several pots of begonias with ferns growing in them (they seem to tolerate each other okay and if one dies then I always have the other). Impatiens are always popping up in my pots as well and that is fine - to a point. If the impatien threatens to take over the pot, then I cut it back hard or pull it out. The impatien will usually wilt before the begonia so I know it is time to water (kind of like the canary in the mine). Ferns (depending on which ones) may wilt after the begonia wilts so don't use this as the canary to save the begonia.
The one thing I found out is the size of the plants is a big factor on mixing plants - if you plant a would be monster plant with a very small plant then the monster will win out 99% of the time.
