Wrote about Hydrogen Peroride putting in to oxygenate the roots
Has anyone done or tryed this?
2.The pet gromer has plants in the window and the are so pretty He has one that is a Kohleria and I want to ask for a cutting how wood I start that is it the same as starting AV? is there a form for growing Kohlerias?
3. Is it best to take leaves from AV in the spring like real soon?
Ok thanks for reading

Here is not and answer but a Hello's to you this morning...LOL

Mornin' Kim..I read somewhere that hydrogen peroxide is supposed to do something to the roots to help them take in nutrients faster.. also supposed to make the plants grow faster.I have never tried it but I have heard of people who do..Might be a good experiment...

As far as starting kohlerias..starting from leaf??..I have NO idea..never tried it. I have had a tall one that a piece broke off so I just stuck it in potting mix and its looking good so far....lol..I do know they have rhizomes under the soil that they grow from..look like spikey potatoes..lol..thats how most people I know grow them..Gee I sure hope someone comes along that knows alot more than I do about them..please don't put to much stock in my opinions..lol..

Now..as far as av leaves I have found spring is the absolute BEST time for me to start them..seems like they make babies so fast this time of year compared to fall or winter...

P.S.Hi Susan..waving!!!

Kim,
It is easy to take 3 very short cuttings , stick in a small pot,(use your usual inside av mix whatever that is) cover it with a dome and they will root. Then you can take the zip lock or whatever off and they will grow and make a beautiful plants.

good morning to you all!

Hi Dimmer! Sorry you hurt yourself, that type of thing is so painful becuase we automaticaly keep trying to use or move our hand!!

I have used the hydrogen peroxide at this rate...1/2 cup to a of gallon of water. It takes oxygen to the roots so is especially good for root bound plants. It also helps with fungus and other yucky things and gives good general aeration for the plant. I get the big 16 oz bottles at Wal Mart for 97 cents and then give all my plants a good drink of it maybe every two or three months unless I am trying to treat a particular issue with it. I'll have to research again and find out where I read about it in the first place for more details.

The kohlerias will start easily from a cutting as Nancy and Gail have mentioned. They grow a rhizome under the soil and then will continue to form more of them. They give me the creeps as I think they look like grubs when I turn the pot out!! LOL I bet you could find a bunch of them if the pet groomer would let you dig around in her pot a bit. ^_^

Here is what they look like...

Ack!! Gail now I know how you feel when someone says they will do just as you have done! What if it flops for you?? LOL

I have had good luck with the peroxide water using it three or four times in the year. I don't wick water but I do bottom water lots of the gessies and when I do the peroxide water I do it like a flush from the top so that it rinses through throughly, giving the roots a nice shot of oxygen on the way.

You can also use it in a spray bottle for powdery mildew or for that white fuzz that grows on top of the soil sometimes. Just remember no light on the damp leaves.

I really need t go find a link to where I read about this....

OK, this one is a lighter dilution than what I have done but maybe it would be best for newbies to start here (not wanting any rocks thrown at me LOL) Here is one quote from this page.....http://educate-yourself.org/cancer/benefitsofhydrogenperozide17jul03.shtml
Helps Plants
It is this hydrogen peroxide in rainwater that makes it so much more effective than tap water when given to plants. With the increased levels of atmospheric pollution, however, greater amounts of H202 react with air-borne toxins and never reach the ground. To compensate for this, many farmers have been increasing crop yields by spraying them with diluted hydrogen peroxide (5 to 16 ounces of 35% mixed with 20 gallons of water per acre). You can achieve the same beneficial effect with your house plants by adding 1 ounce of 3% hydrogen peroxide (or 16 drops of 35% solution) to every quart of water you give your plants.

Another interesting link...

http://www.using-hydrogen-peroxide.com/peroxide-garden.html

I've been reading more, several discussions here on Dave's too and most all go with the 2 ounces of hydrogen peroxide to a gallon of water!!! So a quarter cup per gallon of water!
