Neighbor Planted Japanese Honeysuckle

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Ugh! My backyard neighbor planted this junk last year. Now it's all over the back fence (chain link) and spreading like crazy. Short of discretely spraying something to kill the plant, what can I do to keep it off my side of the fence? If I plant anything near it, the honeysuckle will latch onto it and kill it. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!

I'll be watching w/interest the answers you get because yesterday we bought an incredibly beautiful house here in Katy. Next door they have wisteria that does not ever stay where it is planted (in my experience) and it is over the wood fence and in a tree. At our age we don't do ladder climbing and pruning so don't know what we are going to do. It appears that they have half attempted to try to control this stuff but........

I'm thinking it would be okay for me to cut the parts that are hanging over on my side of the fence. I might need to call the county extension agent and find out what to do. I should report them for planting something on the noxious plant list.

Have you asked them about it? Chances are they have no idea what they have gotten themselves into, and wouldn't mind you keeping it cut back on your side, or they may decide to try and get rid of it altogether. You may even offer suggestions of alternatives. I don't think the coral honeysuckle

is as invasive, and while it may not be a fragrant, it is beautiful.
Sometimes a little communication goes a long way ^_^

They did plant 1 coral honeysuckle and 2 Japanese honeysuckle. I'm thinking I might let my DH handle this one! LOL
