I BOUGHT A SMALL INCUBATOR HOLDS 3 EGGS FOR MY GUINEAS WELL THEY JUST STARTED TO LAY AND I PUT THE EGGS IN THEY HAVE BEEN IN FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. WHAT DO I NEED TO BE DOING TO THEM I HAVE NO CLUE HOW CAN I EVEN TELL IF THEIR FERTILIZED?
DO THE TINY INCUBATORS (3 EGGS) REALLY WORK TIPS PLEASE
you should be able to candle them by now, just search this forum for info, there is lots.
guineas take 28 days. towards the end you will want to stop turning them...
what colors do you have?
fieldsems have you been turning them?
MollyD
YES I TURN THEM TWICE A DAY TO CANDLE THEM DONT YOU HOLD A FLASHLIGHT TO ONE END IN A DARK ROOM TO SEE INSIDE THE EGG AND WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR? I HAVE PURPLE AND ALBINOS AND THE BLACK AND GREY ONES CANT REMEMBER WHAT THERE CALLED.
fieldsems could you please turn your caps off? On the internet all caps means you are shouting. ^_^
Thanks!
MollyD
sorry no good at typing and hit that button all the time so i just leave it on thanks for the lingo info
Here's a good site that explains what to look for in candling eggs:
http://www.shilala.com/candling.html

I have had very good luck with the one I had. Compared to my big the egg capacity to chick hatch ration was three times what larger bator turned out. I have greatly weighed the option of buying several of them for my button quail. A few of those would hold enough eggs and take up very little space. I love them.
i know the people that run that site they live about 5 miles from me and i have bought birds and peeps from them before. they also are half owner of eggbid. i never noticed that page on their site before it shows good pics and egg descriptions.
silkie
Silkie are you referring to the shilala page? They are good ones!
I wonder if I should get one of those little incubators to start with?
MollyD
yep that's who i was referring too. usually u don't see pics that clear and detailed.
They're really helpful to newbies like me! I went through their site pretty thoroughly. Lots of good info there. I didn't know they were half owners of eggbid.
MollyD
i haven't had time to read alot on there but will soon as i have time. yep scott is partners with one of his friends they own eggbid. his wife kelly is who i bought peeps and birds from. they live about 10 min from me,lol both r really nice. easychicken is scott and kelly's site together.
Well please tell them for me that this newbie learned a lot from their pages and really appreciates the time they put into them.
MollyD
Please turn your eggs at least 3 times a day, Fieldsems.
I read a lot of feedback on one sales site for the chickbator.
I was surprised they even posted the comments, as
many were a negative experience. But, at least they
were honest. I think the negative experiences were
probably due to lack of attention to where they located
the bator, and humidity loss due to the small water
capacity. As with Tally's experience, you can have a
good outcome if you are attentive. I hope you get a good
hatch for your guineas! Even if you have a bulb in an
insulated box with a sponge- if the temp and humidity are
looked after, you will get some birds.
i will next time i see them for u.
what bator do u have? a chick- a-bator is a gqf incubator it is not the only 3 egg bator made, they have r-coms those r made by brinsea. chick a bators i've never heard a possative on due to the heat sorce only being a bulb. they work but there is alot of humidity and heat issues with them. r-coms i've heard many great things about good hatches with them.
guineas lay armor plated eggs, lol they r very hard to candle even if u know what u are looking for since shell is so thick. i don't candle them i just leave them in whole time. eggs in a bator should be turned at least 3 times a day or more my cabinate bators auto turn 6 full revolutions a day which really is 12 times a day, lol. in foam bators i always did 6 a day. mark an x on one side and o on the other if u are hand trurning it will greatly help to know if u turned or not.
I don't think I've seen the Brinsea 3 egg. Brinsea
has some good products, though. We are waiting
patiently to find out what kind of bator you have, Fieldsems.
I don't know the name brand I bought it off ebay according to my digital thermometer it's 102 in there but I have no clue about the humidity should there be condensation on the clear hood? I'm sure these eggs are a flop I attempted to candle them and saw nothing. Heck I can't even tell if my guineas are mating there not like chickens!
a r com looks kinda like a white oval hand held game about 8-10" wide. a chick a bator is yellow and a circle shape with a dome plastic top.
eggs r fine long as they don't go over 103. i'd think there should be some droplets on the hood. i've not personally used them but i know my 4 foam ones always did around edge of the windows. if ur temp is 102 if they r they may hatch like a day early. i keep my cabinates at 99.9. i also use hygromiters to measure humidity. ur bator is probably to small to hold one but may one of the reptile ones if u can find one small enough.
i've never been able to candle and egg from that breed unless like day 18 where u can clearly see a solid drk to one end and a clear air cell on top. u've already done 2 weeks ur half way there it's still maybe worth a shot worst they could do is just not hatch. i rarely see my chickens mate and dang near every egg i put in at home is fertile so u can't always go by that either. is this ur first hatch? do u have chicken eggs u can try till u learn how the new bator works? mabe something easier to candle till u get the hang of how it would work. or a breed u can candle know for sure it's working? i think gineases
r one of the hardest to work with due to thick shells i can never see anything, lol.
silkie
I would let them go the full term. You never know.
It can be discouraging not being able to see in the
eggs and not knowing if they are fertile or not. I got
laughed at by a couple members when I said I wasn't
sure if my roo was doing his job. He's very discreet.
