Chick question

Valdosta, GA

I had two black japanese bantam roosters that got along very well, this past Wednesday my rooster Rhett died. I have now ordered a pullet to give Scarlett (we thought he was a hen) some company. How long before I can introduce the two into the same pen together? I am fairly new at this & would appreciate any help!

Frist of all, I am very sorry about Rhett ;-( Please give Scarlett a new name LOL...

are these your only chickens? how much age/size difference do you think there will be.

typically its a good iddea to isolate any new additions to your flock for 30 days. separate food/water, and can't get to each others droppings. but having them where they can SEE each other through wire is a good idea for a few days or longer. if this is just ONE roo and ONE pullet, it shouldn't take long for them to get along... ^_^

Yes, these were my only two chickens ( I was wondering why I didn't have any eggs!)
Thanks for the info- we may just keep Scarlett the way he (slightly confused) & name the new baby Rhett!

well. yes, if he knows his name, that would be the way to go! i have always wanted some Jap bantams, are they bigger than OEGs?

other folks will chirp in when they see this thread. welcome to Dave's!
