The Seed Pod

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I received my Seed Pod, the journal of the American Hibiscus Society yesterday and it seemed the whole thing was either written by Barry or about Barry - with nice mentions of Matt and Robert.
Barry's American Maid was on the front cover (I have that one coming from Matt today, yippee) and his Nightmare is on the back cover. In addition there were lots of gorgeous pictures of other Barry and Susan Schlueter introductions inside.

There is also a note that they have received over 2200 requests for seeds and are in need of some to distribute. Hmmm, I wonder where so many people got the idea to ask.............. DG is far reaching, LOL

There are so many hibiscus shows scheduled, I am so envious of those who live where there are active chapters of the AHS.

any coming to Florida?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Just missed one in Orlando last week.

Next week (26th) at West Palm Beach at Mounts Botanical Garden.

May 11th at the Port Charlotte Cultural Center.

May 18th in Venice.

May 25th in Palmetto.

June 1st in Fort Myers.

Have fun, I am sooooooooooo green with envy. :-)))) Let me know if you need the specifics or you can probably check the AHS website

It just so happens that I will be in West Palm Beach on the 26th. Yes, I still go 2 hours away, every 6 weeks, to get my hair done, lol. Palm Bay is not noted for having great beauticians!
So, I will definately mosey on down to the botanical gardens....after all, I lived in that area for 28 years, before moving to Palm Bay :)

LOL, what we won't do for our hair and our hibiscus.... :-)

LOL Alice, I thought you had a big seed pod on one of your hibiscus. So do you have to be a member of their society to get a copy? Any shows in California? Thanks!

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Kell, sadly there are no chapters in California, but you can join through the american hibiscus website - that's what i did. On second thought, it's probably a good thing they don't do shows in California, I'm already too broke as it is!!!

Me too, I guess I should be thankful instead of envious. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would just love to go be a lookiloo at the shows. I would never buy 1. Maybe 100. LOL

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

LOL Kell, that's exactly what it's good for me not to go, I would NEED at least another 100 ;-)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ardesia, that issue of the Seed Pod surprised me when I got our copy today. Friend Pat asked me to write that article and she got all those great photos together for it. Believe me, I took some heat from malcontents or jealous folks in the AHS community for writing about my own creations, but that is what Pat asked me to do . .

I'll not be posting any more on this site, regretfully, as my own tiny protest of Dave's Rules. His admin today said I could let you guys name a new varitey if I paid $5 to post it in Dave's Classified. I told Dave to stick it in his ear. Probably they'll delete this post soon, but know that my blood clot in my leg turned out to be something else not so scary, and if ya wanna read my drivel come to my web site where I'll get a blog going real soon . . and post new seedling images you can see FREE.
I'll miss you good folks and your photos, but I gotta live my beliefs in this as in all things. I don't agree with the policies here and wont be back. Send me email if you wish, NOT dmail.
Peace and health,
Barry Schlueter

Barry, sorry to see you go--we will definitely miss you! I wish we could talk you into staying, it's really sad to lose someone from our hibiscus family!

I'm glad to hear your blood clot turned out to be not scary, that's great news.

Well Bah Humbug! It is a shame folks don't realize we are all good friends here in this forum. I have been participating for several years and I don't believe I have ever seen any negative posts here as so often happens in the other forums.

How can someone possibly be grumpy when looking at the gorgeous flowers we get to look at every day. I'll be in touch friend.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh I too am sorry you are going. Your pictures and contributions will be so missed. I will sure be on the look out for your new creations. Take care!!!

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)
