New method of seed germination

Kuching, Sarawak,, Malaysia

Traditional, we nick and sow the seeds. Recently I learn from a friend in Taiwan of new method, may be this is not new to someone, but just to share my experience.

After the seeds was nicked, I placed on top of a wet toilet paper for about 6 to 8 hours. The seeds then will slowly absorb the water as become bigger and softy. Then carefully take off the skin cover using fingertip, starting from the nicked part of the seed.

After the skin cover was take off, then place the seeds vertically on wet toilet paper, the root part must hide in the paper, leaving the round part (the leaf) on top without touching the paper. Do not pull water on the seed, but let the toilet paper absorb water by itself. The paper must not dry at all. But too much water the seeds will rot.

The seeds will germinate on the third or fourth day, it depend on the seeds quality.

Wow! great job. I wish I had this method last week. I am still hoping for germination of 15 seeds I planted a few weeks ago. I think I lost them.

Ya, Dean_W, all the 5 sago palm seed germinate, now is 2 to 3 leaves.

Hi Dorothy, I also experience last year which I collected quite a number of seeds from Australia Hibiscus Society, and some seeds do not germinate and get lost. By using new method, at least I am sure how many seeds germinated.
