I recently moved here from Fairbanks Ak. My husband and I have lived all over the states, and I have gardened at least a little in most of our stops. We have 4 kids and a dog. Since that didn't make our lives quite busy enough we also homeschool, do 4h, and the boys play hockey (Thanks Alaska!). Here in PA we have a nice new house that has absolutely no landscaping around it, not even a single bush under the window. It is also at the top of a somewhat daunting hill, so we have our work cut out for us. When I'm not working on the outside garden, I work on the orchids and plumeria inside. I also knit, spin, sew, embroider, cook, and when I can find the time write.
In this new gardening endeavor, I think I am going for a cottage kind of look, with lots of plants to bring in butterflies, and birds. I was gonna say hummers....then I thought better of it. ;)
Hello from Glen Rock PA
Welcome to Dave's Garden! There are several of us homeschoolers around. :-)
Welcome sarazen !!! Lot's of work ahead for you, but it should be rewarding when the birds and butterflies start visiting. ;) I moved to a house that had little to nothing, but grass and a couple evergreen bushes. I took pictures of it and I like to look at the "before and after."
hello adn welcome from upstate new york. you will love it here.
Thanks all! I have been busy. I have been doing battle with the abundant poison ivy along our tree line since the fall. I have some rash on my forearms, but considering we cut about 100 vines back in November, I think that I am doing pretty well. So far I have only found a few that we missed and now I have gotten those cut-off from the roots as well. I'd love to just tear the stuff out, but many of the vines go up a good 20 to 30ft! So I'm gonna settle for dead poison ivy. :)
I do need to take some pictures. I meant to get a good before, but my resident photographer, ie. husband, is busy installing a new supercomputer for NOAA. We should have some 'in progress' photos as soon as he gets that under control.
