Silver Laced Wyandottes are hatching 2 days early

Clarksburg, MO

I am excited but a little surprised. My eggs started pipping about 1 p.m. this afternoon. 2 days early. I originally set 28, but culled 8 bad eggs. so have 20 in the bator. I have had 3 hatch so far and have 7 more pipped. I had actually thought I was a bad chicken Mama because my incubator got too hot (106.7) at one time, but apparently all I did was speed up the process. Glad to have the 3 for now and will keep you posted on the rest of them.

Congratulations! I have heard that high temps leads to faster hatches......not always a good thing. But I am very glad to hear how forgiving the chicks can be. Last night my incubator went down to 97 when it should be 99.5, I am trying to be calm and believe that all will be well--very encouraged that you are so sucessful.

I really thought this hatch was a goner. I just wanted to give them a chance if there was any possibility. And much to my surprise, things seem to be going good.

I think your hatch should be okay. Mine had also dropped low a couple of times. Good luck with your babies-to-be and keep us posted.

Does any one know besides the obvious (they weren't meant to be), why I have eggs that have fully developed and never broke into the air cell or pipped. I thought I had heard that somewhere it was because of a vitamin deficiency. I can not seem to find the crumbles you are supposed to feed hens when you plan on hatching eggs. What esactly is the feed called.

I gues I should not look a gift horse in the mouth since I have 17 babies out or 20 left to hatch. But when I cracked the eggs the chickens were fully formed and ready and it makes me feel bad if it is something that I should be feeding the hens that causes this.

i thought it meant they drowned cause they couldn't pip. either humidity fluctuation from others pipping/hatching, or shells too thick. on another thread MNKris told me thick shells need lower humidity...

i think it is a laying pellet/crumble?
