Does anyone know where I can find this bush?
It's great for bees & butterflys and it grows 3-6 ft high.
Indigo Bush - Amorpha Fruticosa
Try these http://davesgarden.com/products/ps/go/1613/
It's called False Indigo here - I believe because the dye is not as rich or permanent as the true Indigo. We planted one last year and had a problem when it started to grow this spring. The branches became heavy and it split in the center! We bandaged it, though, and it's blooming away. We'll probably give it a haircut after the blooming and see if we can relieve the stress a bit.
awww put little thing........ Glad to hear it's blooming.
I understand that they're not to be moved after planting, because they wouldn't withstand the shock.
The one I had in Winnipeg had light branches, so splitting wasn't an issue.
Kaperc - thanks for the link. Unfortunately I can't buy from any of the companies that sell it because this plant can't be shipped cross-border, legally.
This one just sprawled, with the branches almost lying on the ground. Doesn't help that it's planted at the top of a slope! Could be that they grow differently in our hot dry weather, too. Hope you find a local source. If it grows from seed, I'd be happy to collect some for you.
Garden's North has seed and bonus April sale! http://gardensnorth.com/site/index.htm
kaperc - thank you! Winnipeg is much more humid, and it grew upright, like a lilac bush. Maybe it IS because of the slope.
Dahlianut - thanks so much for the info! :-)
Dahlianut - guess what? Gardens North has the bush I'm looking for - true Indigo Bush!! woooo hooooooooo!!
I find she is a great source for alot of interesting things!!!
