Silkie why do you shake?

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Just wondering why when holding the silkies they seem to tremor slightly and the buff orps don't. Are they just more nervous?!

hmm, if they are feathering in slower, they may just get chilled easily. try holding in front of heat lamp & see if they still do? i think silkies are friendly, so ythey shouldn't be scared...

TF, well, I gave that a try and no tremors! Thanks, I wouldn't have guessed that! They are very friendly and I just love how the feathers extend to their toes.
All of them have been acting abit nutty since I placed newspaper on the bottom instead of shavings. They're all skitterish if they hear any noise at all! They were pretty calm when the shavings were down.

Ok got tired of all the running around and put shavings back in w/ them. It was almost instantaneous they all settled down-guess I have some odd birds!

only thing that made sense to me...

well, i keep them on shaving, and dump the leftover crumbs from their starter feed in there. they love taking dust baths from the start! it will help speed up their feathering-in, too!

do you just prefer the newspaper? i use a cat littler scoop for between cleanings...

LOL, we crossed!

sound a little high, strung, you putting coffee or balck tea in theri water?

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

LOL! I'm not supposed to?! Whew can you imagine-they'd be flying the coop for sure!! I was putting sugar in the water for over a week but haven't put anything else in since.
I usually use the shavings but then I thought it might be easier cleaning w/ the newspaper. Well, they're the boss so I'll stick to the shavings!
