I received some water lily seeds in a trade and I want to try to start them, I have found a few different instructions and want to know if anyone has successfully started them. They are so tiny! I just got done filing down the side of the water lotus seeds and put them in water, I was expecting the lily seeds to be big like that!
Thank you for your help,
Kathy
has anyone started water lilies from seed?
Hi Kathy, sorry I don't know how to start them, but I am curious about how the seeds were packaged. Were they sent dry or were they in a damp medium?
Linda

The seeds were sent dry. So were the lotus seeds. Thanks for the info.
Kathy
If each seed is less than a millimetre in size, odds on they will be day or night blooming tropical waterlily seed. Hardy waterlily seed is usually a couple of millimetres in size
Assuming they are viable they should start in 1-2 weeks, plonked in 1"-2" deep water at 70°f to 75°f.
Germinaton rates are over 50% usually

You might ask the place where you saw them, if they have a record of the names of varieties they carried at that time, then google images of those names... though the odds of finding an image which shows the juvenile lilypads may be remote
Otherwise you might try putting a pin in a list of 100's of waterlily varieties
