Arundo Donax-Arrrrrrgh!!!

(Zone 7a)

So, four years ago we planted, on purpose, some of this. DON'T!!! Not unless you have the room and don't care where it goes. It has taken over and is proving very difficult to remove. I was told, as a newbie, that it was bamboo and would be easy to take care of. HA!!!

It has pushed the wall next to it up so many times, I'm sick of having to fix it. We've spent the last 6 hours trying to get it out and we're only half finished. In the fall, we had to cut it down or it would shed the leaves over the yard and then you have another mess.

Maybe you can contain it underground but we didn't and weren't warned.

That doesn't look like any fun at all, except for your new cherry tree. Maybe you should warn others in plantfiles, no negative comments yet, surprisingly:

How do I do that? I looked but didn't see how.

If you scroll waaay down to the bottom of the page, you'll see a box that says "your actions". Click on "add your own note to this plant" and you'll see the page to add a comment. You might want to add pictures, too, that wheelbarrow full of roots speaks volumes!

Okay, here goes.

(Zone 7a)

Okay, I've added a comment but where do I add a pic of the roots? Just into PlantFiles?

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

Yes, same page, just below the "add your own note" button, there's "upload an image of this plant". Warning, plantfiles is addictive!

(Zone 7a)

Done. Now we'll see what happens next.

(Zone 7a)

They made it into PlantFiles. And you were rgiht. I may be becoming addicted! LOL

Wow, Kwanjin, thank you. I was considering ordering the seed and growing it. Really! I found it in a catalog two days ago. I would never have thought it would grow this big this far north.

Glad I could help at least one person. I should be out getting the rest out but I'm kind of lazy. I think if you keep it contained and don't let it go to seed, you''ll be okay.
