Castor Bean

Humble, TX(Zone 9a)

Can anyone tell when and how to prune a castor bean plant?
I have it in a pot and have neglected it,,, waiting to get it in the ground. It is very tall and lanky with no leaves except at the very top.

Jana, I know a local gardener keeps his in a large pot and keeps it pruned to a bushy manageable size. Unfortunately, I can not tell you the best way to do so. Perhaps someone will come along that can advise you. pod

Jana, the Castor Bean plant is considered an annual in this area, although in south Texas, and also if kept inside, it may be a perennial. If you want to prune it, cut it back to just above a node, on each of the branches, and it may bush out for you, but the plant tends to be very big anyway.
Good luck, and be careful, it is very poisonous.

Thank you both for the help. I think I will cut it back and hope for the best. It is app. 8 ft tall with 8 leaves on the top. Looks very strange. I want it to branch out and be bushy.
