Aristolochia labiata ok for cats?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I purchased this plant at a plant expo recently not knowing which species I was buying. After looking it up in plant files when I got home, I'm reading that it is only hardy for zone 10. My guess it's going to kill the pipevine cats if a mama bf chooses to lay eggs on it. What do y'all say? Anyone grow it? Guess I'll be dragging in the pot over the winter too. Oh well, please let me hear your experiences with this plant.

Well, I'll guess at it anyway. Hate to see a question go unanswered. Polydamas butterflies live in zone 10 so they might use the aristolochia in question wherever it naturally grows. Is your concern that it isn't native to your area and so the butterflies might not accept it? Gulf Frits and Zebra Longwings seem to do fine on a lot of the tropical passifloras as well as some hybrids. Giant Swallowtails eat plants in the citrus family and you know how many hybrids and crosses of those there are. I think as long as you're in the same genus, it's worth a shot. Heck, a lot of the pipevines people grow aren't native to their region.

But yes, you will have to protect that baby in the winter!
