What are your favorite color combinations?

Belgium, WI(Zone 5a)

I love planning out containers and if they weren't so darn much work I'd have lots more containers than I do. I try to change them up from year to year so I'm always playing around. So what are some of the color combos that have worked best for you?

Last year I tried a purple and orange but I didn't quite get it right. I went to a lecture on color by Tracy Disabato-Aust yesterday and I think I learned why it didn't work, so I may try it again. Of course I love a combination of chartreuse and purple.

Anything else you guys have found really works together?

I got on a Lime Green and Black kick last year.......here is one from last summer.

The year before I was planting anything orange and red.......now I'm starting to favor pink and white and yellow. If I keep this up I'll eventually have all the colors.

Out of all the photos on DG yours is the one I hoped would be posted. It's the perfect plants put together. I just love it in case you couldn't guess!

Thank you.

When I planted that pot last year I assumed everything would die during the winter and I could replant with something different this year........seems everything but the coleus is coming back. I guess the small porch protected it from the worst of the freezes.

Yeah!

That's a great pot but the Elephant Ear is just phenomenal in that! Very very nice.

Oh My MorganC...That is one incredible combination. I LOVE it! The black EE is amazing!

Isn't if funny how we change from year-to-year? I'm like you, last year it was blue and whatever. This year, I'm just into color (including the odd pot!). I seem to be leaning toward the purples though!

I'm also just into blooms! I planted this Calabrachoa months ago and was ready to pull it as the foliage was great, but no blooms! Mother Nature does amazing things doesn't she? I guess it just takes patience!

katG those are both beautiful, but I think you did such a nice job in that really decorative pot. You showed a lot of restraint but only using two or three plants with really nice textures. Sometimes I think it's harder to stop putting stuff in than it is to create a really complicated container with oodles of plants.

And I'm glad the Calabrachoa came through for you!

Morganc, you are really talented with your simplicity! Those blacks and lime greens are to 'die for'.

I tend to love those colors and then I like to use orange, purple and hot pink together................especially with the variegated cannas available today for a center of a big pot..........

I have different ones. I did red and white when my kids were graduating from high school. I usually go with what amuses me at the garden center. I have the purple and orange violas in the half basket next to my kitchen door. My kitchen color is orange. I even have an orange Kitchen aid mixer! But i found these beautiful solid blue pansies with really frilly petals and they are my new favorites for various other spots and window boxes. I have a dark brown deck so I usually put colors in those containers that combine well with dark brown, golds, yellows etc. It's lots of fun.

I like bright glowing orange, fuschia and either lime green or lemon yellow. For some reason they make me think of India--like colors associated with jewel box colors. I've been liking the blue glazed pots when I can afford them.

I love the lime and black in that container!

My favorite pansy is Ultima Morpho and it looks great when the daffodils are blooming, really complementing the yellows and whites.

I don't tend to like a lot of pastels...the few things I have that are pale are a 7 yr old peony Sarah Bernhardt...which I mainly keep because it took so long for it to establish...can't say that I'm in love with the plant. It may get adopted out to someone next season.

I like the red, white and blue for patriotic days... flag day, Memorial day, July 4th... Even with small flags tucked in to the pots.

I love the purples & greens or blue & purple. I love a whole bunch of color combos. But that seems to be my kick this first year of gardening! Michelle

Coleus is great for bringing colors together.

Kilgore, TX(Zone 8a)

It really is. Coleus is one of my newest loves! Michelle
