A few questions about Night blooming Cereus ...

Hammond, LA(Zone 8b)

(Epiphyllum oxypetalum) - Sorry the whole name would not fit. Anywhoo . . .

I have some cuttings and need to know how deep to plant them. Will Cactus soild mix be OK, or should I just use regular old potting soil? I have them in cactus mix right now, but want to make sure. Can I try to root a cutting in water?

Thanks! Jennifer

Hello Jennifer. I would not put cactus in water in case it rots. Look after these these Oxypetalums the same as other epis. Use a well draining mix and don't let them get over wet. Plant about 2" of the piece into mix. You can use a cactus mix or propagating mix . I just put straight into small pot of the same mix I use for all my epis.
I use potting mix and add propagating sand , some compost and vermiculite. They like to be a bit rootbound too. I find they do well in hanging baskets because of their mostly weeping growth. Mine are up high to allow for the long growth. You can keep in a pot and stake if preferred. Keep out of hot afternoon sun . Hope this is of some help.
Jean.

Thanks Jean! I have not had any other plants like this other than a Christmas Cactus.

Just wait, Jennifer. You will become an addict like the rest of us when your baby flowers. You will want more. I have around 500 now. You can see some on my other posts. Have a great day, Jean
