We have a pair of ducks that have decided to call the fish pond outside our front door home. This is second year they have come to visit. Last year we harrassed them enough that they moved on. No such luck this year, I have been chasing them for about a month with the help of our cats and dog but they only seem to be getting tamer and less afraid the more we bother them. I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't make such a mess of the water, I used to have fish but the water is now so green I haven't seen them for weeks. Last night I was contemplating netting them with my salmon net and relocating them to the lake down the road but instead got involved with all the hockey on the tube. I am glad I didn't net them for this morning my wife called me at work to say they were parading around the front yard with about a dozen little ones waddling behind. So I guess now we'll just enjoy watching our new family growing up in our little pond and we'll worry about the fish later!
darn ducks
lol.. but look how entertaining they are..we've the same problems with Canada Geese..yuk they make a mess..a few herons as well..so, I cut out and painted a blue heron last year and that seemed to do the trick, now what to do, what to do for the Canada Geese..might have to leave Sailor (Border Collie) out...
A dog chases them should do it. If they're chased continually so can't make a nest they will leave. They did that at a golf course I used to belong to that was overrun with guess and ducks and it worked like a charm.
Any pictures of the little babies?? Love to see some
That's what I was wondering too, photos??
unfortunately it appears the crows must have got the babies, mom & dad are still hanging around but no sign of the little guys.
Oh dear, Mother Nature can be harsh sometimes.
Now that they've nested there once, you'll likely have them trying to nest there every year.
Good luck . . .
