WHY???

South, TX

In TWO days, I have broken TWO PLANTS that were perfect. I am just SICK. One was my Jolly Frost I showed in the three variegated girls post. The other is my huge Picasso. The Jolly Roger does not look bad. Just off one leaf to be symmetrical. I had to cut about four off! I broke two leaves from the Picasso just now. One is broken, but still on, I put a straw to hold the leaf up. I am hoping it will heal..... HA!

I will have to cut a lot of leaves off to make it even. I could not bring myself to it yet. Is there ANY choice? I just thought I would ask.

I wanted to ask if you all cut to make them even when and if this happens to you.

I hit the LIGHT with my sweet J. Frost yesterday. SUPER silly thing to do. The Picasso toppled over just now. That happens sometimes, I have been LUCKY until now. :(

If I break a leaf, oh well!! I never cut any out to make it even again, but then I'm not an even kinda gal...

South, TX

I am SUCH an even kind of gal, ha. Really. So you leave it alone? I work on symmetry. I am really bummed. If you leave it alone, how long until it looks even?

North Augusta, ON

hehe...probably never looks even.

Well, if you need to cut leaves to make them even, look at it this way, every one of those leaves you cut will make you many new babies!!

South, TX

Yes, they are rooting right now. I don't want lots of babies, I want perfect plants, is that so wrong? Ha!!!

(Zone 1)

I am like threegardeners ... I don't grow to show, so I don't bother with symmetry - if a leaf breaks off, I just stick it in soil for another plant or throw it away.

^_^ Perfect Plants??? Only in a Perfect World and my world is far from perfect most of the time ... LOL.

Sally, I have seen pic's of your plants and they are Beautiful - I think they will still be absolutely Beautiful even if missing a leaf here and there!

Exactly, well said Lin.

I don't want to show, I just love them to be pretty. It is just hard when I do something silly to mess them up.

Sally, don't feel badly. I knocked over two african violets the other night from the top shelf all the way to the floor hitting the shelves and permanest trays as they fell down.

We all do that..............if the leaf broken (or leaves) are near the center, they will eventually fill in..............but if lower ones are broken, they probably won't fill in...........save me a leaf! Liz Riggle bought my big Picasso at the sale and now I don't even have a leaf ............I have some good ones for you if you want them...........

South, TX

OK, Gail! The leaves were at the outer edge. I will have to take off more than I want, but I will save leaves. Remember, this monkey wanted to grow UPwards, but the plate on top had helped it. UNTIL I messed her up. GEE, I have forgotten. What else am I supposed to bring? Another leaf right? I have a list now so I won't forget. Let me know.

Sorry you broke your violets. Just seems I got my Picasso lying flat.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have already forgotten what the other leaf was..........I have the big leaves you gave me at the sale.........don't take off any other leaves from Picasso as the ladies might know what to do to make her grow right.............

South, TX

OH! Mindi Rose is the one! OK, I will wait to cut leaves from Picasso. I do have two knocked off already...

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Don't throw them away.........just stick them.........in their own little solo pots........
Thanks for remembering Mindi Rose.......hope I have some you want.

Sally you sound like my DS. I am just happy that they look healthy or bloom.
