nest boxes for hens ideas!

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Here's another use of a bucket! http://backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=42379&p=3

If you have other ideas or pictures I'd love to see how you provide nest boxes for your hens!

We're going to use the bucket idea from BP.
DH and DGD made one last week, with about 7 to
follow.

enjoyed those, thanks!

I love the bucket idea. It is so easy to clean when needed.

I was looking for free ways to make them (forget cheap that's too expensive!) from stuff we already had. Buckets were mentioned on another thread and I think we're going that route but the question remains do we want to use them upright or on their sides like truest has. Still pondering that one but since the eggs that our chicks will come from are probably in the incubators right now I think we've got some time before they're laying eggs ^_^

That one isn't complete yet. They get the 1x2 board
on the front as a roost. If you lay it on it's side, they have
more room, and still some privacy from the 'next-of-hen'.
I jumped on this one for it's cleanability. and cheapness.
Hope they like blue?

so will you be attaching the 1 x2 to the front lip?

Yes, for them to roost on.

truest when they're finished please post pictures! I'd like to see how they look. I'm leaning towards buckets for nest boxes. Seem easier to clean and cheap.

Sorry it's taken so long to get the nest boxes finished
and a picture. Will post as soon as I can!
I love the cleanability of the buckets.

No problem! Between getting ready for the chicks, geese and goats plus I hybridize daylilies on a massive scale so this time of year I'm already swamped I don't know where I can find time to get online these days!!!!

Finally, here is the bucket nest box. Only 7 more
to go-- Hoping to bump this thread up again, maybe
there are some new ideas out there. This is the back
of the perching lip, screwed in place from behind.

And, snapped together ready for a chicken and her
egg. Well, after it's installed in the new chicken house
that is still 12 poles set in concrete, waiting for a floor
and walls.LOL (plus a little hay)
