Newbie question.. Plant Zucchini in a row?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

This is my first veggie garden.. I know zucchini get big.. but do you plant them in a row? I have like 8 plants and am not sure about spacing, etc.
Please Forgive my ignorance..

All the ones I've grown have gotten big. I'd leave about three feet each direction between plants.

The instructions on seed packets are usually for traditional farming, in rows that you walk between. You might check SquareFootGardening.com for plant spacing if using raised beds.

8 zucchini will take up a LOT of space and produce a LOT of squash. As this is your first garden, are you sure you want so much of it?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL I am not worried about space.. but if it's gonna produce that much, I better cut back!

Thank you for the response!

I'm having a blast with this veggie gardening thing.. LOL I've only grown flowers and now someone offered me the land, so HEY.. it's ON.

Thankz again!

If space isn't a problem, then make plantings every a couple of weeks so you'll have a steady supply. Or try a few different varieties: eight ball, black beauty, ect. Sounds like you're going to have fun! Enjoy!

I just cannot thin seedlings - so if I had 8 zuke's and had the space, I'd plant them all and donate the extras to the local food bank... and to anyone else within 50 miles! Good luck! Have fun! Eat well.

Oh, dear, kmom, some friends, with their first garden planted three long rows of squash. Must have had fifty plants. I asked 'why?', and they said because there were that many seeds in the packets. They were more than flooded with squash. They never planted it again, haha

ZZ, once it gets going, squash can give you one a day, do you want to eat that much?

Well, you can always make a nice zucchini bread which freezes very nicely!

many, many moons ago, when I had my first real garden in Georgia, I planted the whole packet of yellow squash seeds... luckily, our chickens and our neighbor's chickens liked yellow squash! Occationally I would miss picking some and would suddenly find one or two very large, nearly ineddible ones - which, when sliced in half and tossed to the chickens provided much entertainment! That's when I learned that a few of the farmers there didn't even plant squash in their personal gardens - they just accepted the donations from overly zealous non-farming gardeners ;-) So it was also a good way to get to know our neighbors!

LOL This turned out to be a funny thread! I manage a mobile home park, so I can put a box out and fill it daily. I'm sure nothing will be wasted.
What a crack up Kmom.. that is too funny.. I bet the farmer on the corner is just waiting... knowing what is gonna happen!!
