I'd like to plant some annual or perennial vines on some of my poultry and waterfowl pens.
Can anyone suggest some no-toxic varieties?
Does anybody know if Virginia Creeper is okay?
I know the wild birds eat the VC berries in the fall.
How about Trumpet Vine?
I have suckers of both.
Any suggestions for Zone 5 appreciated.
Is Morning Glory non-toxic to birds?

Non-toxic vines to plant on poultry pen fences
Rose here is what Wikipedia says about Morning Glory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_glory The bad part seems to be the seeds which if eaten in the hundred can have a hallucinogenic effect.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_creeper Virginia Creeper is poisonous
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trumpet_vine Trumpet Vine doesn't seem to be bad

Thanks Molly!
Any other suggestions, anybody?
Rose how about planting things like squash vines (they've got small ones now) on your pens? I've never heard those vines to be dangerous and we know the squash isn't.
Or peas, pole beans?

Thats a great idea!
Still open to more sugegstions.
Love this question! how about a planting of marigolds along with the vines to add color?
Since my birds free range as well I won't be able to plant flowers since they will eat them.
They will eat the vines too but I plan to protect the bottom half of the plant with a chicken wire hoop.
I should add that some of my pens extend to an area that is full sun and dry so any recommendations for a vine that will grow in those conditions appreciated.

Re. vegetable vines...
You could pick young and tender beans or summer squash and feed to your chickens!
Or to yourself :)
