definitely not a rain lily--definitely not in the Amaryllidaceae family either, look at the sprays of flowers and how the scape is emerging from the base.

It's in the Iridaceae family.

I'm not saying this is what it is but have you planted any Hesperantha's, or what ya'll call Schizostylis?
All of my Schizostylis bloom over winter (Dec-Feb) but that could depend on when they were planted too. If it opens about noon and only when sun is shining maybe Schizostylis--if it opens up real late afternoon or at night, one of the other Hesperantha's.

That foliage in the upper right corner, is it the same? Have you planted any of the summer growing South African glads? Has that been growing all winter--then maybe one of the winter growing glads.

Some kind of Watsonia maybe?

thank you both. This belongs to my buddy. I buy her stuff, she buys me stuff then neither remembers what's what. It likely it a watsonia because I have never ever heard of hesperantha. Going by googles, it sure could be it but I think it more likely is a watsonia.

again, thanks.
