Dunn Garden Pictures

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

So Katie59, Katye, myself and DH toured Dunn Garden yesterday. It was fantastic. The only complaint I have is that many of the plants did not have ID tags on them and the docents were not particularly knowledgeable about them. Otherwise, it was well worth the ten bucks and DH and I plan on returning monthly to check out what's blooming. It was quite an inspiration and now DH has decided that he wants to landscape more of the property than he did initially. So here are just a few of the 64 pictures I took during our tour yesterday.

Erythronium revolutum for which I believe we all bought seeds

And because I don't know all the plant names, I am simply going to post the pictures.

Many 4" pots of Trillium "Kurabayashi" which were NOT for sale. We did, however, find them afterward at Swanson's for $17!

Yep...that's it. And I want more than one! ^_^

Beautiful!! In post #506, are those flowers of Darmera peltata just emerging? Glad Kayte id'd # 519, impatiens, because I love it!

Forgot to ask.. in the first photo, are the flowers of those violets really that blue? That is awesome!

Oh. also, # 523, I believe is a ranunculus being sold under the name 'Brazen Hussy'. I'll see if I can find a photo. I've been thinking of getting that one and if that's it in the photo, It will be mine!

Yes, the violets are that blue - almost in a royal-navy sort of way.
The Impatiens had me intrigued - really need to see it up close & personal: the leaves are scalloped and cut-in on the edges. Picture does not do it justice.
I will find this one (seeds/plants) for sure - it was striking and pretty cool that it's hardy here.

You mean this one?

Thank you for sharing your visit to Dunn gardens with these fabulous photographs. It really is a magical place.

I can't believe this: that impatiens was on my list of 'find' plants for this year! I knew I recognized the name. Can't remember where I ran across it, but it may have been in a book by my favorite British gardener: Beth Chatto. I like the idea of the orange 'goldfish' flowers. Also wonder if I could start it from seed, so I'm off to look for that possibilty. I wonder if the slugs like it.

Here's a link that may be of interest:

I know this guy posts on the impatiens forum on gardenweb. I noticed him posting with Annie of Annie's Annuals back when I was researching plants for this season.

Oh, Pix, I hope not - I have Darmera that I grew from seed, and I really don't want something that creepy coming up! Eck, double eck.

I think they are cool! The stalks keep growing and the flowers open up. This is just the bud. Actually, that would look really nice with that ranunculus around it. I think Edelweiss perennials sells that one.

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

I really like that one. Kinda reminds me of alien pod people. I can imagine it opening up and bunches of little greenies running out saying "We come in peace." ^_^

Hi Pixy I have both the darmera and the impatients. Heidi

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Heidi - if you have the Imp. omeiensis (omeiana), and/or Imp. mengtzeseana, please let me know. I have been looking for both & want to buy.

Pixy - did you sow any Mimulus lutea?
The cl. Asclepias you gave me is masquerading as Mim!

Okay, this is sad and not a little scarey, people. Guess which plant I bought at the NW flower and garden show this year?? Impatiens o. Yep. It's in a pot even as we type, right outside my, greenhouse door. I KNEW I wanted that plant and it was on my list. ROFLOL!!Good thing I can laugh at myself. May as well. Everyone else laughs at me anyway.

Thanks, anyway,Heidi. I have three kinds of darmera.

Actually i did sow two kinds of mimulus, one of which might be lutea. I notice triginus coming up in many of my pots somehow. I'll check the status of the climbing asclepias and send one up to the swap if you are going to be there. The one at jburesh's house.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Oh that's ok. i was just letting you know, and actually, it was such a great surprise because it flowered last week. With all the unseemly weather, it was just what i needed to see: flower sunshine!!! A very nice Mim, and a perennial to boot. So - out to the garden and into the yellow & red bed.
It will make a nice addition, and remind me of that fun work party at Rach's.
Who, by the way, must have gone on vacation - haven't seen her popping in as of late. YooHoo - Rach! Howzit? =:0)

She's had the tummy crud. on the upswing now, though.
