I'm a newbie to Dave's Garden, although I have enjoyed some of the other garden forums for some years now. I live near Traverse City, which is in Northwest Michigan on Lake Michigan - a beautiful area of rolling hills, wineries and cherry orchards. My husband and I are retired educators (retired in 2000) and take care of our two granddaughters (3 & 7 yr. old) three days a week while their parents both work. We feel so luck to have them nearby. I love to garden, and especially enjoy roses (I have 180 of them and publish a monthly newsletter for our rose society). After my family, my biggest project is an effort to establish a botanic garden in this region. I'm chair of the Botanic Garden Society of Northwest Michigan and we may be very close to settling on a site for the garden - we've been at it for 8 years! Spring has finally come to our area - the last two days have been in the 60s and the snow is rapidly melting in our orchard and garden. Things will be busy now. And I can tell already that I'm really going to enjoy the folks "in Dave's Garden."

Welcome to Dave's Garden! My college roommate was from Traverse City. :-) Have you found the Michigan Gardening Forum yet? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/region_mi/all/
Never mind... I see you have. LOL Welcome anyway! ^_^
Wow --180 roses !!! That is great !! Welcome !! I hope you can post some pictures when your roses are in blooms. Sounds like a beautiful area where you live. I thought we were getting spring here, but it's back to winter. (smile)
Thanks! Soapwort, we're got snow in Northern Michigan today too. Sigh! But it's supposed to be up in the 60's by Thursday - I'm so ready!
