Bella Fertilizer

Morrison, IL

My Bella was doing so poorly that I did what I had read that others have done and yanked it out of the dirt and put it in water. That was about three months ago and it looks much better now with new growth and even a couple peduncles. My question to those of you who have done this is ----- Do you fertilize it while in the water and if so how and with what? I use the beer fertilizer on everything else and I am pleased with that.

Hi Dee, glad to hear that your bella cutting is doing well in the water. I use fertilizer to root all of my cuttings in the beer bottles with the water method. Not a lot, but a very dilute amount of the Eleanor's VF-11. If I have water left over from watering my plants, and it has the beer fertilizer in it, I will put just a bit of that in the bottle too, and fill the rest of the way with regular water.

You might just need to change the water a little more frequently in my opinion. Does your bella cutting have roots yet, or are you just planning to grow it in the water? Sounds like your bella is very happy if it is just blooming away for you.

Thanks Sara! The Bella has a lot of roots and I will leave it in the water at least for a while. I will add a little beer fertilizer on occasion. No roots yet on the cuttings I received last week but it is a little soon.

Dee
