My husband has just finished mowing, and is overwhelmed with the amount of weeds growing in the centipede grass. At this point, it seems there are more weeds than grass! Last year he bought some lawn weedkiller but found that the directions called for using half the dosage when using it on centipede grass. More would kill that particular type of grass. Well, half the dosage didn't even faze the weeds!
This centipede grass is fairly new to us, this is our second spring in SC. What do you SC natives to combat weeds in your centipede grass lawns? Please help, this is making hubby very grumpy.
weeds in centipede grass
Hi Thea, good to hear from you again. This is what Clemson has to say about centipede.

At this point I would keep mowing it often and be sure to pick up the clippings so no weed seeds will sow themselves. After the weather warms up you can put down the post emergence if desired. There used to be an old Seed and Feed store in downtown Manning, is that still there? If so, they would probably have good advice on specific products. The big box stores often carry products that are really not suitable for this area.
Just a precaution - never use a weed & feed product on centipede.
Hi there Ardesia!! Thanks for your help! I printed off the Clemson article for Bill, and mentioned the feed store (we do have two small feed stores in town), so he's going to check with them.
I forget what a valuable resource Clemson's website is! Thanks for your reminder!
