It is averaging 50-55 at night here, and around 65-70 during the day.
My chicks are now 5 weeks old and fully feathered. do you think it is safe (temp wise) for them to go outside all night yet if they have a heat light in the shed-turned-coop with them?
(oh yeah, these are 25 bantams)
I also have 20 three week olds, and I figured I should probably wait a bit longer with them, or do you think they would be ok with the older ones?
They are all in the brooder together. These are standard egg layers.
can they go outside all night yet?
Hi kelboidy, I asked the same question awhile ago. My chickens are standards--we have night temps in the 40's and day temps in the low 70s right now. I moved my chickens out when they were almost 5 weeks old with the 250 watt brooder light on them in the night. Last week I changed it to a 100 watt red flood light. They are almost 7 weeks now and I am considering down grading them again. They are sleeping in a small (2x4) upper loft of the hen house and there is no door. They are doing great, I have 7 and they are about 1/2 full size, but I think the light and tight quarters makes it very comfy for them. They won't come out in the morning til it warms up:0)
Ours are about 3 weeks old and not quite fully feathered. So far we haven't put them out at night but will soon because our night temps are reaching 60's and 70's so with a little light they should be fine.
