Visiting Julia

San Francisco, CA

I visited Julia Scheeres today (this is JuliaSF on the forum), and thought I'd share some pictures. Here is Julia and her daughter Tess. Both pretty photogenic, huh?

This is Julia's plant of Hoy 'Matilde', or part of it. This is the most beautiful specimen of it I have ever seen. It was completely full of open and budding peduncles.

Here is a closeup of the blooms. They open light green and turn pink as they age, just like H. serpens, one of the parents of this hybrid.

One of the leaves on Julia's H. cinnamomifolia was enormous, much bigger than any of the others.

A closeup of the blooms of H. motoskei. Julia has buds on cinnamomifolia and mindorensis, but none open yet!

This plant was bought as H. meredithii. It looks like a finlaysonii relative, but it doesn't look like meredithii to me. Any ideas?

What a gorgeous mother and daughter!!! With the same color eyes...lovely!!!

Great plants! That last one actually looks like a finlaysonii X incrassata seedling...there were a ton of them running around....sibling to cv. Jennifer.

GREAT plants!!!

Thanks Mark!

Julia, little Tess is just adorable!! What a fun day you must have had. It is really nice to put a face to a name.

Ha! I just saw this thread! Mark managed to take a flattering photos of us despite the fact that Tessa just woke from a nap after Y swim lessons and was playing shy and I hadn't had time to pull myself together yet at 1:30 in the afternoon (I'm sure the moms out there understand!).

We had a nice hoya swap - he lives only 5 minutes away -- and it's always a treat to exchange hoyas with friends rather than pay for them...and also nice to have a plant expert like Mark look over my collection and offer tips.

Unfortunately I over-watered the "Matilde" in my eager-beaverness and one of the vines appears to be rotting - thus the pink-colored blossoms never fully opened up. (I'll never learn!)

Thanks for the ID, Carol.

I found the photo of Cv. Jennifer on DG, and it's a beautiful plant:
