from the grocery store today. My vehicle made an unsolicited turn into my local nursery, the Greenhouse Nursery, owned by the very knowledgeable, friendly, dog-loving and helpful Diana (never got a last name). At any rate, we went in to look for a peach tree and purchased a Prunus persica. We also became the proud parents of Cornus kousa "Wolf Eyes." I even have an idea where I want to plant it! Wow!
Anyway...we got to talking about Primula. I really, really love them! So I was telling her about the "Mahogany Sunrise" I got from Pixy and she says to me..."I have something for you." And she gave me this gorgeous little P. farinosa, which smells absolutely heavenly!
A funny thing happened on the way back
And then she says to me "Have you ever heard of cowslips? Remember in the old days when people used to talk about pulling up the cowslips? Let's take a walk." So we walked out into her garden area (not as vast or diverse as Heidi's, I must admit) and she stooped down and dug up this adorable little P. veris. There were some red ones mixed in with the yellow and she pulled some seed heads and sprinkled the seeds in with this. So, wow.
Now I know...I must have hellebores, lots of hellebores. And Euphorbia. She has several varieties there, one that struck in in particular was "Blackbird." Reminded me a lot of the "Orange Grove" we got from Heidi. Anyway, and Primula. I love these little guys!
Love primulas. I say most are great and fragrant. The ones you get at the grocery store look good but get eatten by slugs. The ones you got outta are super. Good score and how nice of her to share. Heidi
Thanks for that heads up, Heidi. I had no idea about the slugs! Every time I go to the grocery store or Rite Aid or Walmart or anywhere those little beauties are sitting out there, I'm very tempted to bring home a dozen or so. But knowing now that those are slug food, they can just stay right there. She is very nice and apparently used to lurk around here. I've told her all about DG and she says she's going to sign up. She's closed on Sundays...maybe I can drag her along on the tour on the 27th. I'm sure she'd be inspired by your magical place!
That would be great. I always like to snoop in other nurseries as well. All the other primroses seem to be a lot tougher. Don't ya just love plants
Yeah...and the Euphorbia we got from you is so great. May have to pick up a few more different kinds when we come on the 27th. And the Skimmia. Do you have any girl Skimmia japonica? If so, I want to pick up one or two of those as well (the boy Skimmia is lonely). Also want some "Red Fred" if you have any left by then. Guess I should tow the trailer behind the party barge! ^_^
I think that would be great. Hope to fill the barge. We might have to make this and annual Daves garden spring fling at Dragonfly
Going to be great.
I love the cornus kousa "wolf eyes". Nice choice.
Gasp! Wonderful little primula!! I have tons of the P. veris and love them. Just noticed today that one seeded itself on my little island in the stream.
Outta, you are falling fast!! Ladies and germs, I believe we have ourselves an addict here! And to think, it was so easy to convert her!! Once your car starts driving itself to local nurseries, you are in real trouble.
E2EG
(E2EG??? I can't get it)
Outta, the day you arrived I think we all knew we were going to love and respect you - (smiling!!!)
****Batting eyelashes***** ~ gazing downward with a sheepish grin ~ Thanks you guys. Probably wouldn't have gotten so quickly addicted had it not been for your enabling...er, uh, I mean support ~ yeah...that's it. This, so far, has been a wonderful ride and I am SO looking forward to what it to come!
E2EG "Ear to Ear Grin" LOL
Just a trainee, on short hand
