Last night, the now semi-celeb Chesapeake started going to his box every 3-5 minutes with very little output. And he yowled all night long. No one got any sleep here. So this morning, I called the vet and they told me to bring him on immediately. I left school, went home, got him, wrote down everything that had happened in the past few hours and dropped him off at the vets. When I called back, of course they told me he had a UTI and what to do to treat it-antibiotics, new food. Picked him up after school and took him home. I let the dogs out so I could bring him in and get him settled. When I let the dogs back in, Queenie, my elder Great Dane/who knows what mix was barely able to walk or stand. So I called the vet back and they said to bring her right over. I was very much afraid that she was literally on her last leg and that she probably would not be coming home with me. She has a history of hip dysplasia and knee problems. She was actually able to move much better by the time we got to the office. He observed her quite a while and gave her additional meds. If this doesn't improve rapidly, we are on our way to an ortho vet. Whew! Rigth now, Chessie is doing much better; Q-dog is still in lots of pain. Oh, and 2 weeks ago, those 2 went for their dental cleanings. Q-dog was fine, but poor Chessie had to have 12 teeth extracted! I'm so grateful to have great vets who would see them right away. (Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Most people don't understand the bond between my furbabies and me!)
Tough day at our house!
